The team behind Iowa's Ride announced its first event will change dates, no longer in direct opposition to the Register's Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa.
Iowa's Ride initially intended to run the last week of July, the same time as RAGBRAI. However, multiple charters and teams criticized the group for creating opposition within the biking community.
The ride will now run from July 12 to July 18.
"We have been meeting with and listening to many cycling teams and cyclists throughout the state. We have received some great feedback to help shape IOWA’S RIDE," a spokesman wrote on the group's Facebook page Friday morning. "The most overwhelming concern that keeps coming up is the date of the event and how it is dividing long standing cycling teams. We have even heard from teams trying to decide who gets the team bus for the week. This was never our intent, and this is not good for anyone who just wants to ride their bike."
The organizers are also changing the ride's route. They will ride from the eastern edge of the state, in a "Mississippi River town," to the western edge.
