Accused of negligent homicide, Austin Wayne Dean stood beside his defense attorney as his trial was postponed again.
The attorney, Allen Smith III, sighed and said, if the trial didn't happen at the rescheduled date, he'd ask for dismissal of the charges.
"At some point, we're gonna have to try this case," he told 9th Judicial District Attorney Mary Lauve Doggett.
"I agree," Doggett replied.

Then Dean fired Smith.
After Doggett made sure that was what Dean wanted, she approved his request.
"Good luck," said Smith as he closed his file and walked off.
Dean, 37, faces an obstruction of justice charge, in addition to the negligent homicide charge, in the Feb. 17, 2018, drug-related death of Daniel Brett Megison at a Joyce Street home in Alexandria.
Dean's trial had been set for this week, but another case higher on the docket proceeded to trial instead. That meant that Dean's trial would have to be continued.
His new trial date is March 2, 2020.
