LEXINGTON, Ky. (Nov. 19, 2019) — DanceBlue has announced that the 2020 DanceBlue Dance Marathon will begin 8 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 29, in Memorial Coliseum, and conclude 24 hours later at 8 p.m. Sunday, March 1. View the official reveal video here. The countdown toward the "best day of the year" has officially begun.
The 2020 marathon will serve as a celebration of the past year of dedicated hard work "For The Kids." DanceBlue has spent the months after the 2019 marathon forming a new committee; planning and executing Fall Blitz Week, the DanceBlue 5K and the Silent Auction; working with businesses to have fundraising days; finding corporate sponsors; going to mini marathons; hosting family parties; and, of course, spending time in the clinic.
DanceBlue has already had a successful year, but there is much more to come. In the months leading up to the marathon, DanceBlue will continue a lot of this work, as well as focus on planning activities for every hour of the marathon, planning all of the logistics behind the marathon, learning the line dance, forming morale teams, and having workdays to prepare for the marathon.
DanceBlue Overall Chair Sally Martin said everyone involved has been working hard to make this the best marathon yet. "While the marathon is the end date we work towards all year, it really is a giant celebration to recognize the hard-working students, faculty/staff, mini-marathons, donors, and all that our supporters have put in throughout the year," Martin said. "I’m so glad everyone gets to have that date to finally put on their calendars! I hope to see you there!”
All are welcome to stop by the marathon at any time and watch in the stands to support dancers and the kids. People can also support by volunteering, donating, becoming corporate sponsors and so much more. For questions regarding involvement and anything else, visit the DanceBlue office located in the Gatton Student Center or reach out to a committee member.
DanceBlue is the University of Kentucky's 24-hour, no sitting, no sleeping dance marathon that benefits the Golden Matrix Fund. Now in its 15th year, DanceBlue has raised more than $15 million For The Kids. The DanceBlue Kentucky Children’s Hospital Hematology/Oncology Clinic opened a brand new facility in 2017 after a complete renovation funded solely from DanceBlue.
