WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – The Hartford men's basketball team hosts its third straight opponent from the Northeast Conference on Saturday when it welcomes the Wagner Seahawks to Chase Arena at Reich Family Pavilion. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. on ESPN3.

All students who attend Saturday's game will be entered into a halftime drawing for a chance to win an iPad. In addition, the student dance group Fenomena will be performing during halftime.

SCOUTING WAGNER
  • Wagner visits Hartford on the heels of a 2-5 start to the season
  • The Seahawks have dropped their past two outings, including an 89-86 overtime decision to Stony Brook and an 86-63 decision at St. John's
  • Five players are averaging double figures for Wagner, led by Curtis Cobb III at 21.6 points per game
  • Leading the way with 20 three-pointers, Cobb has scored 19 or more points in his past four outings

SERIES HISTORY
  • Wagner holds a 2-0 record against Hartford in a young series that began in 2017
  • The Seahawks took the inaugural meeting in West Hartford before extending their streak with a victory last season on Staten Island

LAST TIME THEY MET
WAGNER 77, HARTFORD 68 (DEC. 22, 2018)
  • A slow start doomed the Hawks at Wagner, as they dropped a 77-68 decision last December
  • Conceding a 20-0 run to start the game, Hartford chipped away and pulled within five with 2:06 remaining, but was unable to pull off the comeback
  • Former senior Jason Dunne led the Hawks with a game-high 20 points

LAST TIME OUT
SHU 79, HARTFORD 62 (DEC. 8, 2019)
  • Sacred Heart used a late run in the second half to push past Hartford, 79-62, inside Reich Family Pavilion last Sunday
  • Graduate student Malik Ellison paced the offense with 18 points
  • Freshman Miroslav Stafl added 12 points in the defeat

TALK A BIG GAME
  • Flowers had an explosive outing against St. Francis Brooklyn earlier this month (Dec. 5)
  • The freshman guard dropped 28 points on the Terriers, with half of those points coming inside the game's final two minutes
  • Flowers' point total marked the most scored by a Hartford rookie in more than 17 years
  • The last freshman to score that many points in a game was Charles Ford, a 2006 graduate who dropped 30 points on Vermont on Jan. 20, 2002

ROOKIES OF THE WEEK
  • After averaging 17.0 points and 5.5 rebounds in a pair of games last week, Flowers was named the America East's Rookie of the Week on Monday
  • With Flowers' recent honor, the Hawks have had two players earn Rook of the Year distinction, as PJ Henry took home the distinction after opening week on Nov. 11
  • The two Rookie of the Week honorees are the most in a season since 2011-12, when Wes Cole (2x), Mark Nwakamma and Nate Sikma took home the award

A BIG DEBUT
  • Ellison, a graduate transfer from Pitt, did not disappoint in his debut in a Hartford uniform
  • After missing the first 10 games with an injury, he was solid in his first appearance against Sacred Heart
  • Corralling a team-best five rebounds, Ellison went 6-of-15 from the floor and 6-for-8 from the free-throw line to lead the way for the Hawks

ON THE MARKS
  • Last season's veteran-driven squad resulted in limited minutes for Marks in his rookie campaign a year ago
  • Despite minimal court time last season, the combo guard/forward has quickly found his niche in 2019-20
  • He has barely come off the court, averaging a team-high 34.5 minutes per game, the 15th-most in the nation
  • Marks has scored in double figures a team-best six times, which includes Hartford's first 20-plus point game of the season at Texas State (Nov. 30)
  • He registered his first career double-double against Oakland (Nov.18) after dropping 11 points and hauling in 13 rebounds

FRESHMEN PHENOMS
  • With the story line of the 2019-20 campaign being the squad's six seniors, the Hawks have done a complete 180 this season
  • The freshmen trio of Flowers, Henry, and Miroslav Stafl has made an instant impact on the court for the Hawks in 2019-20
  • The rookies have accounted for 44 percent of Hartford's offense this season
  • Flowers (12.1 ppg) and Stafl (11.1 ppg) rank second and fourth, respectively, in scoring
  • Henry has been a spark plug off of the bench, averaging 5.8 points in 21.5 minutes per game

SWIPE SPECIALISTS
  • The Hawks have been active on the defensive end, as their 7.5 steals per game are the most in the America East
  • Leading the way is graduate student Traci Carter, who is 70th in the nation and first in the America East with 19 thefts
  • Henry and Moses also rank among the league's leaders in steals, checking in at second and eighth, respectively

SMELL THE FLOWERS
  • Flowers has made an instant impact in the Hawks' backcourt
  • Sporting a team-best six games in double figures, Flowers is averaging 12.1 points per game to rank second behind Ellison
  • Two of Hartford's top-three scoring games have been produced by Flowers, as he had 19 points against Gordon (Nov. 16) before upping his career-best scoring total with 28 against St. Francis (Dec. 5)
  • He has been impressive from behind the arc as of late, combining for 14 makes in his past four outings behind 48 percent shooting

NEXT ON TAP
  • The Hawks break for final exams before returning to action on Saturday, Dec. 21, to host Cornell
  • The contest concludes a four-game homestand for the Hawks
  • Tipoff is set for 2 p.m.
