Tekashi 6ix9ine's Release Date Could be As Early As December 2019 - Showbiz Cheat Sheet

Rap sensation Tekashi 6ix9ine has been incarcerated since November 2018 on federal racketeering charges. He was initially facing a life sentence but later took a plea deal in which he agreed to cooperate with law enforcement in exchange for less time. As his sentencing date approaches, details regarding his potential stint have started to emerge. Some law enforcement sources say that Tekashi 6ix9ine’s release date could be as early as December 2019.

Why exactly is Tekashi 6ix9ine in prison?

6ix9ine was arrested on federal racketeering and firearm charges along with five others. The U.S. Attorneys Office said in court documents that 6ix9ine and the men were part of the Nine Trey Blood Gang, a “criminal organization whose members and associates engaged in, among other activities, acts involving murder, robbery, and narcotics trafficking.”

According to Rolling Stone, 6ix9ine was facing 32 years to life imprisonment for his role in the gang. He initially pleaded not guilty but later switched up.

In January, the “Gummo” rapper reached a deal and pleaded guilty to nine counts of racketeering, firearms offenses, and drug trafficking, per The New York Times.

Under the deal, 6ix9ine agreed to work with law enforcement “against multiple violent people associated with the same criminal enterprise of which he admits, or will soon apparently admit, being a member.” In exchange, he could potentially have time shaved off his sentence.

In September, 6ix9ine took the stand and testified against his former peers. His testimony helped convict several gang members.

Tekashi 6ix9ine could be released really soon

6ix9ine will be sentenced on Dec. 18, and some say that he might be given time served.

Lawyer Moe Gangat recently said on Instagram that 6ix9ine will get out of prison soon.

“Look for Tekashi to get out this Wednesday, December 18 with a sentence of time served,” he said. “When it’s all said and done, he’s likely to have served just under one year in federal prison.”

He added, “The way federal sentencing works is the government tells the judge what sentence the person should get. Here, the government hasn’t asked for any sentence. When the government doesn’t ask for a sentence, what they’re saying is time served, no sentence.”

In another video, Gangat acknowledged that 6ix9ine could still face decades in prison but said he doesn’t think that’ll happen.

Gangat said: “On the one side is the government and they’re there to prosecute crimes. On the other side is the defense attorney who’s there to defend the accused of crimes. The judge is supposed to act as a neutral arbitrator to figure out who has the better argument, then make a decision.”

“In this case, the government is not asking for a sentence,” he continued. “The probation department, also part of the government, is recommending time served. The defense attorneys are also recommending time served. So it would take something really extreme, really something unprecedented to give anything other than time served.”

6ix9ine and his loved ones plead for his freedom

6ix9ine’s family and loved ones have recently penned letters to his judge pleading for leniency. 6ix9ine even wrote a message in which he apologized for his behavior and asked the judge to go easy.

“As my sentencing date approaches, I am becoming more and more overwhelmed with emotions,” he wrote (via Revolt). “I find it difficult to find the right words to express what my life has been like for the last year. It honestly feels like my world is crashing down. There is no excuse, no justification and no apology good enough in this world to explain my crimes.”

TMZ later reported that 6ix9ine is “feeling the pressure ahead of his sentencing.” But with any luck, things will work out.

Either way, we hope to see 6ix9ine come out of this and move on to great things.
